I'm not sure I understand your question, but a 9 qt. Canton pan will hold 9 quarts and then you have to add whatever your oil filter will hold........

Did you check your dipstick level when you put the pan on?????
I have 2 engines with the 8 qt. Canton road race pan and before installation, I put 8 quarts of water in them and measured the water level to the top of the pan,from there I put the dipstick in (mine is in the timing chain cover) and measured how much it went past the bottom of the block and from all this could figure wihin the pan gasket thickness where the full level should be on the dipstick.........which BTW was the factory mark, both Canton pans and the factory Ford pan where the same depth,so the factory dipstick was accurate....

When both Canton pans were filled with water,the level was just touching the bottom of the windage tray in the pan....
