My Cobra replica has the same clearance issue as you mentioned. At first I was using a short version of the Fram PH8, IIRC it was a PH43, if you are comfortable with Fram filters you might be able to get by with that one as it did clear. However, I wanted a better filter, so I had my local auto parts store cross over the PH43 and they came up with some options. I chose the K&N for the high efficiency filter rating (the same as the newer cars that use full synthetic oil use, I think it was 99%+ capture rating). Here are some photos, you can see how close the K&N is to the frame:











Your 351C will be able to use the same filter.

Cheers, hope you get this sorted! If you have the time and $$, the remote filter option really IS the best one...when I do that, I will use the high efficiency filter on the fenderwell and the Oberg sandwich type filter with the finest screen available right at the entrance to the oil cooler.
