I went through this exercise with a different kind of car several years ago. Here is the list of options I remember.
  • Lower the engine in the frame
  • Raise the body on the frame
  • Use a shorter intake manifold
  • Mill the carburetor mounting surface on the intake manifold
  • Use a unique air filter design to fit in the available space
As I cautiioned in the earlier thread mentioned above, regardless of the approach taken, you have to leave enough room between the top of the carburetor and the top of the air cleaner for the air to make the turn into the throat of the carburetor without significant restriction.
