Kevin:
I've had the clear bra product on my car since I got it 8 years ago. It's done a really good job of keeping the stone dings down. Over 50,000 miles and it's still going strong. A couple of really big stones have gotten through it but even then it's kept the size of the damage to a minimum.
Mine is installed on the nose (wraps completely and about 4 inches up), spats on the front of the rear fenders and along the top of the doors. I added my own strip 3 inches wide centered along the line of the top snaps to keep it from rubbing.
I used a company called Invincashield who had a pattern for ERA but I don't know if they're still around. I think they were in North Carolina. The product itself is made my 3M and they make it in two thicknesses. Go with the thickest you can find, probably around 4 or 8 mills.
You may well be able to find someone locally to install it since it has become a fairly common product. Check with any local exotic car clubs (Porsche, Ferrari etc.) to find someone local who installs it. Check their work if at all possible.
Do some digging on the web to see if anyone is making a pre-cut pattern and have it done professionally. I wouldn't call it a do it yourself project because of the compound curves of the Cobra body.
