I have the oval air cleaner and modified it to be offset to the carb (set back about 1 inch) which sets it inside the hood scoop opening but I have marks on the inside of my hood where the air cleaner barely hits. I shortened the carb to breather adapter but it is still too high. I need now to shorten the adapter another 1/4" or so (and maybe modify/relieve the air cleaner base) to get more hood clearance.

Nothing that a little grinding, welding and rattle can can't fix.
