I totally agree, the tire companies are loving it.
When you get a nail or screw (small object) in your tire, a simple plug will do the trick providing the tire has plenty of tread and not worn out. Another good method is to install a boot / or patch on the inside of the tire, but a plug can be installed on the road and keep you going as long as you have enough air or an air supply.
The main reason tire companies don't and won't repair a steel belted tire is 1.) liability,
2.) it's possible someone might plug a tire where the steel mess is ripped or torn resulting in an unsafe repair.
Best is get home safely and keep an close eye on the tire and check air pressure & plug for leakage. To be completely safe and for high speed use..get a new one.
