It's easy on the car, just jack the car up and turn the rear wheels, if they don't both turn the same way at the same time, probably not a positraction! If your only looking at a 3rd member out of a rear end casing and your trying to determine if it's a positraction, you can basically do the same thing as if the casing was together on the car, you can insert the rear axles on both sides and see if they turn the same way at the same time or probably just turn the front yoke on the housing and watch the side yokes or axles turn!
