Where do you need the protection? In my ERA, which I'm assembling, there is an additional layer of fiberglass matting, called CoreMat, on the top/inside of each fender, in the well. I had it painted black. For now, I've chosen not to do anything on the bare aluminum panels that separate the wheel wells and engine bay and trunk. For these vertical panels, I'm told I don't need anything extra, and I like the look of the aluminum. If you need the protection on the top, you can add something like CoreMat or use a brush-on or spray-on undercoating from 3M or Eastwood.
