Mail order carbs work, but the chances of being close to perfect are not as great as if someone has one on a dyno. The chance of getting a mail order carb close doesn't out weigh the chance of getting one too lean and damaging an engine, one 'oh ****' takes a lot of 'at a boys' to fix. It's been my impression a carb can be set up to cover a lot of different engines, but that same carb is also going to be 'close'. Works for some. I have a pro systems carb i'll sell someone cheap, still haven't figured out why they would put a restrictor in the main block for idle adjustment.
