The run is pretty much set so the time has come to spell things out and add some flesh to the bones.
First things first: We need you all to give us your
Snail Mail Address, because there is stuff we will need to send you that won't fit here on the CC board. E-mail your address to
bish.wheeler@verizon.net and please do it right away even if you are still on the fence about making the run. We want this stuff in your hands so you will know what is happening early on.
The packet we will send you will contain, among other things, the list of Motels that are giving us special rates and holding rooms. You need to contact them ASAP to reserve lodging. You won't be required to make a deposit, just tell them you are with the NW Cobra Club
Okay, here is
The Great 2002 Idaho Cobra Run in it's final form:
We will leave the Issaquah XXX on the 6th of June at around 12 Noon. The first leg will take us to Richland. We will stay at the Red LIon (on the river). You Oregon guys can meet up with the main body of cars at the Red Lion on the 6th or we can hook up in Hermiston the next morning. It's your call and you will need to pick a place to meet in Hermiston if that is what you want to do.
Now is the time to break out your road Atlas because things get real interesting from here.
After we leave Richland, the next over night is Boise, but before you leave Richland you will have to decide if you want to make the
Hell's Canyon Run or go straight through to Boise. Those going on the Hell's Canyon Run will need to leave about 3 hours before those going straight through.
The Hell's Canyon Run begins at Baker City OR. We leave US 84 and head East on OR 86 through New Bridge and Halfway. As you can see the road has a
very interesting shape and our sources tell us the the turns are banked in many places. We will cross the Snake River at Brownline dam and head up ID 71 to US 95 then south back to US 84 at Ontario where we will meet up with those who chose not to make the run (if any).
We have been contacted by the Idaho Exotic Car Club. They want to come out and play with us and may want to meet up with us as we approach Boise. A good chance we will get an escort into town, hopefully with out flashing blue and red lites!
Saturday the 8th.
A free day or you can join the
Sun Valley Run. If you choose to partake of Boise Town, you will have a grand time. The town is super friendly and has lots of cool shops and eateries and a very casual and layed back attitude.
The Sun Valley run will leave fairly early most likely with a number of Idaho Exotics leading the way. We will go and return by what ever the local wisdom dictates. That evening we will meet for BBQ, drinks and lies at around 1800.
Sunday the 9th.
We will head north on ID 55 to McCall, then US 95 into Lewiston and on into Pullman where we will spend the night.
This leg of the trip will be the most scenic. Mountains, rivers and canyons, quite a few small towns and of course
Hell's Canyon, as viewed from
Heaven's Gate. We'll hit McCall for lunch and then work our way into Lewiston and take the Old Hwy up the canyon side, (this road is like Geribaldi St. in San Francisco, only on steroids) and into Pullman.
Monday the 19th,
We will have been on a lot of different terrain by this time, but now we will hit the
Palouse. We will pretty much follow WA 26 across rolling wheat country all the way to Vantage where we will cross the Columbia and head for home. The Oregon cars will probably want to head south out of Pullman toward Walla Walla and Pendleton to pick up US 84 west.
That's the route folks. We will have at least one chase vehicle. There will be more details to follow, there seems to be a never ending list, but you get the idea. Please get you Mailing address to us and Y'all come, hear!
