Default OBDII code reader / scanner

We got the dreaded MIL light on our Discovery 3 a few days ago, which usually means EGR valves need replacing at a cost of around $1500. The valve assemblies are $400 each and it's a fiddly job.

I checked with my cheap OBDII code reader and sure enough it shows the generic fault code for the EGR. Further research on Land Rover forums and it appears I need to use a "proper" scanner to read the manufacturer's code as it provides more information. Eg, the manufacturer-specific codes can reveal anything from a bad MAF, fuel filter or even clogged cats - all part of the EGR metering system. It can also be one EGR and not the other, so before the local LR workshop bends me over I want to be well informed - plus it's an excuse to buy another gadget.

So can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced scanner for Aussie vehicles? The Autel MD802 looks good but at around $400 from the local agent and it's good for the Cobra, being compatible with local Ford/Holden models. I like the idea of being able to capture live data to SD card, nice for track days.

Or if someone in Melb has access to a decent scanner and you're available tomorrow, please let me know.
