Default Fuel vent pipe

Happy new year to all!

I'm installing my fuel tank. It's a stainless, going in a street 289 with the correct keyhole-shaped button Ceandess cap. The tank has a filler tube (central position), a fuel take-off at the base and the hole for the gauge sender unit. There is no vent pipe or similar to allow air in/out. The cap has a very small hole in the sealing plate that holds the rubber seal, which allows air to pass through. Is this enough, or do I need to drill and weld a tube for a vent pipe as well? What did originals have?
