I think I have the same g'box behind my LS3 and I was told that if I did not want to run the cooler then I had to plumb the outlet to the inlet else the g'box
oil pump could cavitate. So I elected to fit the cooler.
Also, the cooler kit as supplied actually mounts the cooler to the side of the gearbox, so that is where I put mine.
