Guy, the challenge is that the "full package" normally in the donor car consists of multiple computers. e.g. Engine ECU, Body Control Modue, ABS, blah blah. They all like to talk to each other and if one is missing things don't work.
e.g. the VATS (security interlock etc) is a key one that has to be removed so the Engine computer will start the engine. There's also a couple of other things as well.
Some people put all of the computers in there, which is a lot of additional wiring etc (in my opinion only).
Some people get an older ECU that is "friendlier" to re-program too - if the engine suits, that is of course.
Anyway, chat to a couple of people at the next club meet and I am sure you'll get your answers. Or some others will chime in here too I am sure.
