If you install a regulator, it needs to be as close to the carb as possible. Use a mounting plate like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-210250r/overview/

Personally, I would install a new regulated pump, and skip the regulator. Fewer components, and less opportunity for things to go wrong.
