Lippy,

I've had two guys that have been around FEs for many years tell me sometimes there just isn't a solution to a little run-on and using the clutch is the answer. Mine was dieseling about half the time so I started using the clutch. Now it is second nature so no problem at all. Avoid lurching by not letting the clutch out too soon after you turn off the ignition. You don't need to let the clutch out very much - just enough to put a bit of a load on the engine and it will stop smoothly.
