Spoke with Brookes and Adams again today. It turns out the current Managing Director's grandfather did have a contract with AC Cars - in the 1920s! Looks like these wingnuts had sat on the shelf for a while when they were used for the Cobra... makes sense, they would have ordered a lot of them initially and used on cars right through the line, Acecas, Aces, Greyhounds and the earlier models.
