Yeah, its a hairy one this car.
At the time it was done, what was done was perfectly legal, as the body and chassis where simply a part, the VIN was transfered to that part.
Now it is called "rebirth" and is highly illegal.
To my way of thinking, if the original chassis and body are used, then this is the majority of the car, so the numbers should stay with it.
But at the same time, I am also in agree that a body shell, chassis is "just another spare part" and as long as the correct type is used, then a body number/VIN number should be transferable.
I think what makes this all very dodgy is that the original body/Chassis should have been destroyed when it was replaced.
But the seller is very upfront about it, so he is giving the buyer all the info to make an informed decision.
