I line the fill pipe on the tank up with the fill tube under the cap as much as I can for a straight shot and put the hole through the trunk floor to suit. I also vent the tank from the opposite side to the fill at the highest point on the tank. I have been plumbing the vent to an "n" shaped tube through the side of a tube between the cap and tank. Fuel going in draws air out of the tank with a venturi effect and it works very well.
