IMO , much better than the K&N base .
Tried 5 different drop bases on mine and didn`t find any that worked as well as the L88 base . I`m running that with a spun aluminum lid and air director I made with a 3" one layer/pass K&N element .... what they call their racing element . Has very little delta P across it . Those factory guys back in the late 60`s really did know what they were doing .... GM put tons of money making those engines run , take advantage of their research .
Also , do a search on Speedtalk on lids and bases .... there is a ton of info from serious engine builders over there on this subject .

Bobcat - where might I find the L88 base you suggest, as well as spun aluminum lid?
