We have a Superperformance here that the man put a 351 crate motor in and just loves it. You will here all kinds of arguments about big blocks versus small blocks. I have one of each and far pefer the small block 351 as I like road racing and it will run circles around the big block 439 NASCAR engine. That weight up front is ok for straight line accleration but handling on sharp curves is something else. As for horsepower you can get the crate engines in about any range you want. One man has 345 horsepower and around 340 pounds of torque and that is really a great car. Another has around 425 horse with about 380 pounds torque and it is faster and still drives great. I have 520-530 horse and 515 pounds of torque and it is fast but not great for crusing around town for long.
