The larger reservoir is for the front brakes. Typically, they'll require more fluid. The front brakes exert about 70% of the braking force, so if the front piston area/rear piston area ratio isn't correct, your setup requires a pressure limiting valve on one end or the other. Production cars have setups that only require the valve on the rear system.
