Unless you are racing, the windage tray is really not necessary. It is there to prevent the oil from sliding to the side of the oil pan during hard cornering or acceleration. Without the windage tray there could be a loss of oil pressure, as the oil pump may not have enough oil available to properly lubricate the engine.

So unless you are racing, or planning on doing some hard cornering to beat someone else to a preferred parking spot , there is no real reason other than bragging rights. By the way, I have a windage tray in mine.
