I am aware of VicRoads requiring a cobra owner to fit a late model efi engine in place of the existing carby engine the car was purchased with (from interstate) - because the date of manufacture did not align with the engine installed (updating the induction was not sufficient). This was after a number of reg in Vic.
There are many levels of complication and an ad-hoc call to a customer service at VicRoads will not resolve them.
Good luck with your search.
Have you been in touch with the Vic Club?

Hi LoBelly
I have been speaking to one of the blokes from the club about this. I rang Vic Roads and got through to what I thought to the right department. As he had to go and confirm his answer with someone else. So I guess my next question is who do I need to speak to to get a reasonably straight answer as they are few and far between at VicRoads. It defys me how we are supposed to do the right thing if you can't get the right answer from them.
So was the engine swap required to transfer the car to Vic registration from interstate? The reason for asking this is I have also spoken to VicRoads regarding what is required to change over registration from WA to Vic and again I have been told by VicRoads it is just a matter of filling out the forms paying the money and it done. They did say they may need to site the car to confirm the VIN number if it isn't on record with WA. BTW the whole time I made them aware of what the car is.
Very interesting
