Okie,

I have the same valve covers and the same heads, and ran into the very same problem. As you probably determined, the issue is the width of the valve covers, not the height. I finally solved the problem by adding spacers (even though I'm not running roller rockers), running the car for about 100 miles, then removing the valve covers and using a Dremel to relieve several areas on the valve covers where I was still getting contact. Now runs quiet.
