Ok.. did the calcs.. interested in any thoughts..

Weld joint calcs show nominal stress (less than 15MPa), the retaining plate deflection however is key.

I have used 11,000 and 9,000N loads applied to the structure as per ADR 2/01 and FMVSS 206.

The worst case calc for the deflection of the latch retaining plate, WITHOUT the latch installed, with an unsupported span as to 75 mm in 2.5mm plate gives a calculated deflection of 1.66mm.

With the latch installed and assuming it acted as a supporting member for the purposes of the test with an effective span of 40mm, the deflection reduces to 0.297mm
