What is the advantage of this system vs putting the sensor on the crank and doing away with the distributor altogether using a modern EMS? The EMS allows doing away with the MSD box, and allows for setting a timing curve electronically.

For example: I'm running a Megasquirt MS3 PRO distributorless and multi coil. It can handle injection, ignition, either, or both.
