I have repaired three trunk lids from gas Springs damage.
All of them had the spring pressure on the trunk when it was closed
Too much Pressure trying to open the lid when it was closed
One had two springs on it and it actually cracked the deck lid
And one ripped the latch out of the inner panel so be careful
you want a spring with just enough power to lift the deck lid and make sure it's set up with the lid is close there was no pressure on it.
