SPF has always used DOT3/4 and has never factory filled with DOT5 (silicone) fluid.

A flush is not a bad thing if the fluid is very old, it will assure that moisture is removed from the system and allow any remaining water to be absorbed and held in suspension by the new fluid. That is how brake fluid is designed to work, to keep any small amount of water in suspension until removed during fluid replacement.
