Actually, nearly every time I pulled the distributor, the oil drive came with it. I used a straw and slit it slightly and then pushed it down over the drive and then lowered it all into place in the oil pump. Then I twisted the straw until if broke loose. So, the straw is used to put the oil drive back. I have heard that tapping the side of the distributor will stop the oil drive from coming out.

I remember years ago using a piece of fuel line that I stuck on the end of the drive shaft, then lowered into place. Once in place, I put a little compressed air to the hose and it popped right off.
