As I recall, certain SPF cars took the source voltage for the voltage regulators from either a bad connection or a spot in the circuits that did not accurately reflect the system voltage. But that's just from memory, and I don't own an SPF anyway. And that may, or may not, play a factor in your problem. If you had that problem, though, I would fix it first.
