Personally I like the brushed/machined look of the outers and if anything would have a grey in the centre, something with nil or low gloss.

I like what Bob has done with the wheels at vintage wheels when he has bead blasted the outers with no coating, so as time goes on they have a nice aged look to them.

It would be interesting to see some before pics if there has been some good work to restore.
