Not every CHP officer will allow/follow just calling the inspection with just using the frame tag and firewall plate acceptable.

In order to get in front of this issue, my install shop, knowing the fickleness of the CHP officers, had a VIN tag installed with my KMP serial # tagged on one of the frame supports in the engine compartment, IIRC, since theoretically, it must be visible to the eye when the hood is open. Otherwise, you could be at the mercy of where the CHP officers installs these VIN tags. Just an FYI.
