I made a lexan windshield for my other car. I paid under $100 for a piece big enough for two, from Home Depot or Lowes. Was certainly easy enough, once I learned to not use a jig saw. A band saw or table saw works much better. The plastic just wanted to melt back together with the jig saw. Having two people really helps bend the lexan windshield so it can be screwed into the frame holders. I used a water spray with a drop or two of dish soap and mirco fiber cloths to clean. Ran it for several years with never a crack, chip or problem.
I've also read about new Polyglass windshields that are very resistant to scratching. Wipers can be used (not with Lexan) and their surface is so slippery that no RainX type coating is needed. (BTW, RainX doesn't work on Lexan, Lemon Pledge does).
Or, you, or your insurance company, can pay close to $600+ for a glass windshield that will break eventually.
One thing to consider is that neither Lexan or the Polyglass windshields are DOT certified, so there may be problems, if you car has to undergo state inspections. Your call.
