I am not a car guy so bare with me, our cobra has the bare metal exhaust pipes and they are rusting bad enough to give it a texture and its rusting really bad where the four headers meet up into the big pipe, how can i remove this rust and prevent it from occurring again.

Secondly, i know this is probably not an exhaust but i have a small mechanical issue, the right exhaust is significantly lower toned than normal and it backfires every now and then. My best guess is that one or more cylinders arent firing into that half of the engine. But id like to know what you guys think.
