I have 4060 and have done it both ways. If you install the motor and trans (I have a top-loader) at the same time, pull the hood (duh!) and lift the vehicle at the rear. The "downward dog" position of the vehicle allows for a better approach angle. Lower the drivetrain into the engine room with the transmission tail shaft hanging much lower than the engine, then feed it back, raising the tail shaft as you lower the motor and push the drivetrain back and into position.

I found this technique preferable over pairing the engine and trans separately.
