Before I started this project, I asked around. Starting with backdraft, and ending with the local dealer. Will a Coyote fit? Oh, sure, it will fit! We have an installation kit for that, no problem.
OK, well, it's really not true. I'm not sure this is going to work out.
It fits down in the engine bay. I had to remove the
oil pan so it would fit between the motor mounts. And I had to remove the valve covers to get it in the hole. But it went in.
The hood even fits over the supercharger. Mostly. There's a little bit of interference that needs trimming underneath the scoop, but only about an inch or so. No big deal there.
The engine is in, but there are some real problems. As you can see, the steering column is in the way, and is going to have to be moved. It hits the front corner of the cylinder head, and blocks the dipstick. That's not a real problem, I suppose. I can use street rod parts and move it around enough to work. I think I need to move it up about an inch or two.
But, here's the real issu. And this could be a deal breaker. The alternator. Obviously, the stock part will not fit.
I have ordered a small 80A one wire part; but it hasn't come in yet.
The only way to make an alternator fit here would be to notch the frame rail. Since there's an extra plate welded in, that's an obvious weak spot. Not sure I want to be cutting in to that.
I could raise the engine 1/2- 3/4" for more room here. But then I have to cut in to the hood more.
It also looks like the
oil pan will hang below the frame rails a little bit. May have to fab a skid plate for that and the transmission.
This was supposed to be a fairly easy job. Sigh.
