I took both screws, checked them on my bolt/nut thread checker... If I remember correctly, (I checked them way too early this morning and it's been a rough day.) the old screw ran all the way into the 5/16 x 18. The new screw threaded about a 1/4" then stopped.

I have another toploader transmission out of my '67 GT Mustang and I'm going to take the adapter plate and the screws from that transmission and try them on the Cobra transmission and see what I come up with.
