Among several, the early ones hold a special place in my memories (1979-82)…
This is my first Mustang (68 coupe) as a teenager, saved up and bought at age 15 for $1,350 sold 2-3 years later for I believe $4,250. Spent the first 6-9 months working on it before I could even drive it, officially.

Converted into a street sleeper with FE engine, C6 w/shift kit from Dean transmission, Hooker headers, upgraded suspension, all black interior, Emerson Fittipaldi signature series ‘Fitti E3’ steering wheel, unassuming stance, kept the traction bars, added back stock wheels that I painted gold to match the gold pinstripe, with stock hub-caps.
Before photo (as purchased)
302, C4, white interior w/black front seats, jacked up in rear with oversized tire/Cragars.
A couple things I do miss…
Chirping tires upshifting into 3rd.
Being around the engine build. I’d located a builder of local Nascar FE engines and he allowed me to be involved in the process. I searched parts, lent a hand on easy build steps. I liked his adherence to tolerances, balancing, torques, pre-lube/sealing techniques, etc. He installed Clevite 77 bearings, telling me at the time he used only those as they’d never failed him in his race engines.
This was my second Mustang as a teenager…
65 GT350R replica, gutted interior with sheet metal panel, roll cage, wink mirror, one seat, Nascar net, etc. The paint was gorgeous on this car. While I did a few things to it, the prior owner did the real majority of the work, I was just its caretaker for a while.
My Honda Odyssey
Many good times with this one! Some sand dunes, but mainly flying/sliding around mountain trails and service roads.
