It was meant well (I suppose) to help into the corners in the 60s, but recent tires probably more than make up for that need, and zero bump steer is the way to go.
4" total travel is very little :-)

Original cars had a rubber mounted rear toe link that caused toe in under throttle so they under steered excessively, that coupled with reverse Akerman on the 427's made them pretty bad. I think they were trying to make them safer.
