And the same will happen with a polymer or composite gear.

If it's a cast core camshaft, it needs a cast iron gear.

If it's a steel core camshaft, it needs a steel gear.

The gear will also depend on the distributor's shaft diameter.

If your cam card says your cam's part number ends with a -9 or -11, you have a steel cam. You need Crane 52971-1. Yes, I know it says for a 351C, but that's what you use.
