Lh vs Rh
As the left side handbrake is applied and the inner grooved plate (the one screwed into the piston) moves toward the left side of the car, the outer is pushed toward the center of the car, and bears against the thrust bearing. Normal design practice would dictate that this movement and rotation should force the nut to tighten (left hand threads) instead of loosen (right hand threads). It is obvious to me that this has not been an issue with this design, but I just didn't want to try to remove the nut without being sure of the rotation.
