After a bit of a lay up (house resto project) I am back trying to make the speedo cable work.

Have checked the serial numbers on the case (C5 AR-7006-D H27- so '65 full size Ford) and tail (C70R–7A040-A, so 28 spline 14" 66-69 Fairlane/Mustang/Cougar).

I have found the gear supplied with the Southern Automotive refurbed toploader checked and have a C2Z-17271 16 teeth gear. Have fitted this as per instructions onto the speedo cable, but can't seem to get it to fully locate into the speedo drive hole in the casing - I seem to be 1/4" proud.

Any suggestions? I am reluctant to start applying a hammer. Have so far just pushed with finger pressure and tryig to rotate the other end (not easy single handed).
