Thanks for the input. We fabricated the CSX "correct" glove box door last night. It was quite the project and I think it turned out well. It just needs to be covered and piped. The car is 1/2" oak that is tapered to fit in the opening better with the 205MM long 1 1/6" piano hinge counter sunk into the front face of the door. The door then gets a wafer thin piece of aluminum bonded to the front of it (no real reason to have it but the original cars did). The back also gets a thin piece of aluminum that does serve a purpose..it gets wrapped in material to hide the seams from where the material on the front is wrapped around to the back.

I have the original 427 glovebox handle. But will be changing out the style of hardware for the handle and door strap (keeps it from flopping open) to nickel plated screws in trim washers as the original setup looks pretty crude.

Now off to find a reasonably correct looking latch.
