Hi AC,
Running sidepipes will be a commitment as you will need to cut holes in the body. You could always consider the 289 FIA style which is a 3" running under the rocker exiting in front of the tire. You can tuck it under the body, or nudge them out about half way to get the best of both worlds. Both configurations are correct. This way you can always swap out, as it is a simple change at the primaries.
