It took 15 months and a whole lot of work to get this 502 cid (460 block with a stroker crank) in the car, troubleshot, and tweaked. I've always been a Chevy small block V8 enthusiast. Transitioning to a Ford engine presented its challenges. I was haunted with
oil leaks, fuel leaks, coolant leaks, cooling capacity problems, flex plate and starter alignment problems, alternator problems, ignition timing problems. Just par for the course for an engine swap, I guess, but this one was especially painful. My old Camaros were much easier and cheaper to work with. But that's history. My Cobra is finally a dependable car that'll take me wherever I need to go without fear of breaking down. ATK Performance Engines advertised this engine at 515 hp and 585 ft-lb torque. The spec sheet that came with the engine showed 530 hp and 570 ft-lbs. Close enough. Okay, so no one ever promised me that building/maintaining a Cobra was going to be easy. I get that.
