EBC red stuff are great clean and work from cold pads...

As for function, my superformance brake system was transformed by the addition of a vacuum accumulator in line with the vacuum line from the intake. You may want to take a look at this line and make sure it’s well sealed and isn’t crimped anywhere. Also if you’re running a low idle and hence have low vacuum you’re brakes will be real stiff...if you’re coasting to a stop in neutral do they work better if you use one foot to hold revs up a bit?
Am Accumulator will solve your issues if so...
