I would shut it down if things got to 230 or so. My understanding is the FE can go to 240-245 before things start a-poppin'. Something has to be really wrong to get to those temps, however.

My normal operating temp is 185. Climbs to 205 in stop and go traffic, but no higher. I have a double-row brass radiator, Edelbrock aluminum waterpump, brass FE header tank, 19 lb. cap, drilled-out thermostat as a restrictor, 16 in. puller fan. I use a 50/50 mix of water/Prestone, with 2 cans water-wetter.
