As far as what kind of rpms the bottom ends would handle, both engines would be capable of 7500-8000 rpm.

David's 289 was done at 5800, so if he were getting on it hard with a quick shift, he'd probably shift at 6200-6300.

The road race engine peaked the horsepower at 7000 rpm.

That's the beauty of these kinds of builds. They look stock appearing on the outside, but are built extremely strongly and modernly on the inside.
