Question

Little things that I see in the photos. Engine cooling fan wasn’t two colors as pictured. (Should be red/orange color) Cockpit mirror isn’t original or in original location. Non-original gauges. From the photos, it looks like the wheels aren’t period Halibrands. And of course, does the block have the vin tag number stamped in it. Can’t tell from the photos but it would something a concours judge would look for. We know the transmission in the car isn’t original. Stuff like that. I tend to look at them how a concours judge would look at it.
When a restorer begins a project, especially on a race car, what point do you restore it too? Original as purchased or a historical point modified along the way.
I understand it was modified in period for competition use by a privateer but it started life as a street car. Pat used to drive it to the grocery store when he owned it!
